“Don’t Panic! Don’t Panic!” (while running around in circles, visibly panicking, and hence, most visibly entertaining to watch)
The words of Lance Corporal Jones from the British TV series “Dad’s Army” which ran from 1968-1977. I won’t spoil it for you. You simply need to watch this show. Don’t bother with any of the remakes. Find the original series. It is funny. Every bit as good as “MASH” or “Hogan’s Heroes” and even better than most other shows of the period. Back then, we could poke fun at the otherwise serious experiences of wartime and by extension the related politics involved, and the British are certainly masters of this craft.
No, I am not going to sit here and write a review of “Dad’s Army”….nobody believes a TV or film critic anyway. And besides, I’ve already made it clear that I like it. Take my advice and watch it yourself. Or don’t. Whatever.
So why open this post with a quote from Lance Corporal Jones? Well. As some have pointed out, it has been a while since I have written anything here. “Don’t Panic!” I’ve not abandoned the effort. (you aren’t getting off that easily, even if “They don’t like it. …Not one bit!”) I’ve merely been distracted with work, other events/projects/etc, and to a degree maybe even too many ideas to decide which to pursue first. But I’m working on it. I have no set schedule here anyway. So catch few episodes of “Dad’s Army” and get back to me before the air raid warden makes me “Put that ruddy light out!”
Such a great show. I really loved spending time together and watching it with you.
Never heard of it, but gonna look it up now. Love “Are You Being Served?” & other British shows. Thanks.
